Scheduling the Backup to Run Automatically: Telling the Backup When to Run

Scheduling the Backup to Run Automatically

Step Two: Telling the Backup When to Run

Photo of daily backup schedule optionsThe most common choice is to have the ABS Backup program check daily and save changes it may find in the chosen group of files. You may choose to let the program check every day of the week or only Monday to Friday. You may also choose to have the program check only on certain days of the week or only every second or third day.

Once you have decided how often to check for changes, you must choose a time and starting date for running the ABS Backup program. The time chosen should be when no one is using any files and may be changed by typing the hour, minute, and second into the spaces provided or by clicking on any value and using up or down arrow.

To choose a date to begin safeguarding your files, click anywhere under Date. You should see a calendar appear for the specified month with a red box around the current day. Click on either the greather than or less than sign to move the calendar forward or back one month at a time. Once the desired month is showing on the calendar, simply click on the desired date to choose it as the start date for saving your critical files. The scheduled date will be updated as the calendar vanishes.

Set the starting date and time as described above then decide whether you want the program to check every week or skip every two, three, or more weeks before checking again. The day of the week is based on the starting date. If the starting date is a Tuesday, the ABS Backup program will check on Tuesdays of each week the schedule repeats.

The date and time may be set in the same manner as already described. Similar to the weekly option, you may choose to skip one or more subsequent months between checking for changes in this group of files. But rather than choosing the day of the month based on the start date, you must specify the actual day of the month on which to check for changes in the group of files to be safeguarded and saved to the ABS network.
